Sweet Pork Tacos with Dr Pepper

It’s almost time for the College Football Playoffs, which means it’s almost time to cheer on your favorite team and hang out with family and friends.  Game day is even more fun with refreshing drinks and yummy food.   Dr Pepper is great both as a drink and even as an ingredient in some of your favorite recipes.

Dr Pepper College Football Playoffs

Dr Pepper is a proud supporter of the College Football Playoffs.  In fact, it’s rumored that Dr Pepper concession worker Larry Culpepper actually invented the College Football Playoffs.   Make sure you catch the Playoff Semifinals on December 31st in the Orange Bowl and the Cotton Bowl.   The National Championship game will take place on Monday, January 11 in Glendale, Arizona.

To prep for the games you can stop by Target to score some sweet savings on Dr Pepper with a Cartwheel offer for 20% off all Dr Pepper soda.   Dr Pepper is an ingredient in one of my favorite dishes for Sweet Pork Tacos.   This dish would be perfect for your football watching party.   It’s a real crowd pleaser!

Sweet Pork Taco Ingredients

Sweet Pork Taco Ingredients:

  • 3 lb Pork Tenderloin
  • 1 can of Dr Pepper
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cans of tomato sauce (15 oz cans)
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Add all ingredients into slow cooker.  Set on low and cook for 6-8 hours.

Shred Pork

When meat is done, shred pork and add to a bowl and spoon some of the sauce from the slow cooker over the pork.   The pork turns out super juicy and the combination of the Dr Pepper and brown sugar gives it a really nice sweet flavor.

Sweet Pork Tacos

Assemble the tacos by adding the following on top of flour tortillas: shredded sweet pork, cabbage, black beans and Pico de gallo.  Top with sour cream and fresh cilantro.  Yum!  This meat can also be used for pork sliders, which is another great option when it comes to great football friendly food.

Dr Pepper Target

Make sure you are ready for the College Football Playoffs by stocking up on Dr Pepper at your local Target store.   Don’t forget to take advantage of the Cartwheel offer for 20% off all Dr Pepper soda.  This Cartwheel is good on all Dr Pepper packs and all Dr Pepper flavors  like Regular, Diet, Cherry, and Diet Cherry.   Cartwheel offer is good through 1/2/16.
