Target Dollar Spot 70% off?!!

Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 11.43.45 AM

I have heard from a couple of people that have found the dollar spot black + sign items marked down to 70% off today.   If you don’t see signage at your store, make sure you scan an item or two to see if they have been marked down.   This is a great time to pick up items for birthday gift bags or stocking stuffers.

Let us know if you find the same discount at your store.

Thanks Erin & Stacey for the heads up!

Chalkboard Welcome Sign

DIY Chalkboard Welcome Sign

I just can’t pass by the Dollar Spot without taking a peek. I’m always finding something fun like stamp sets or seasonal ribbon. It is a thrifty crafter’s dream! My last trip to Target I spotted this chalkboard sign for $3. I’d love to share with you how easy it is to embellish and turn it into something worthy of your front door.

You’ll need:

  • chalkboard sign
  • acrylic paint
  • foam brush
  • washi tape
  • chalk and/or chalk markerfoam brush

Did you know that washi tape works well in place of painter’s tape for small projects like this? Tape around and then use a foam brush to paint. Let your first layer of paint dry and then finish with a second coat. While the plain chalkboard is nice, I love giving it this pop of color.

After the second coat of paint has dried remove the washi tape. You should have nice, clean lines.

Now you get to have fun decorating your sign with chalk! I drew the sun with regular chalk and used a chalk marker for the words. I’ve seen both of these in the Dollar Spot before so be sure to look around.

I’m going to be using this as a welcome sign for my front door, but I think it would be cute anywhere in the house. Wouldn’t it be great to decorate seasonally or even daily? Sometimes the simplest things can be so much fun!

Light Up Easter Egg Banner

Light up Easter Banner with items from Target One Spot

We all know it’s getting close to Easter time!  I sure love Easter, with all the vibrant colors and cute Easter decor. I just can’t get enough! Here is a quick tutorial on an Bunny & Egg  Banner to spruce up your home for the holiday and something your kids will enjoy as well. Not only was this quick to make, but it super cheap too! All these items were found in the One Spot dollar section at Target.

Supplies for Bunny & Egg Banner (Find them in the One Spot at Target)

  • Egg Lights (they light up! comes in cute yellow, pink, turquoise and purple)
  • AA Batteries
  • Easter Stickers from American Crafts
  • Dollies
  • Ribbon
  • Twine (comes in green and pink – so cute!)
  • White Burlap Ribbon found in Dollar Spot
  • White paper
  • Mini Hole Punch (you can find at Michael’s or any craft store)

To make your bunny & egg banner, just simply lay out your egg lights so it’s easy to decorate. On every other egg I tied ribbon and white burlap ribbon. The burlap ribbon is a little tough to tie, so gently tug on it to get a knot, it might take a little bit of time.   Also, because its so thick so I cut my in half vertically and about 12 inches long.

Close-Up Easter Banner

On white paper I traced a little bunny and cut out 5 of them, I also tied them  between every other egg as well.  For the easter cards, I just use colored paper I had lying around and decorated with the cute Easter stickers I found at Target. How can you not love them?!

Light Up Easter Egg banner decorated for Easter

Don’t forget to add your dollies.  To tie the paper items to the banner you can use a mini punch hole to put the string through and tie to the banner.   Lastly all you need is to put your batteries in and your banner will light up!  So cute and simple!  This took me about 25 mins to put it together!

Happy Easter everyone!
